hosted by Monohon Ramen
A unique event as 'Rouge' hosts the next Monohon pop up!
Fashion designer turned shopkeeper Lei Yang stocks vintage furniture, textiles, ceramics and artwork from Japan, China and elsewhere in the Orient at her beautiful shop 'Rouge' in Stoke Newington.
At a small event to celebrate 10 years of Rouge, Monohon will serve 'Abura Soba' at a few tables in Lei's charming oriental emporium.
Hugely popular in Japan but largely unknown here, Abura Soba is a kind of soup-less ramen, a bowl of thick and chewy noodles with a sesame-oil based sauce. Toppings include slow braised pork, onsen-tamago (very soft poached egg), crispy fried shallots, menma (marinated bamboo shoots) and others.
We'll demonstrate how to make the dish and then invite guests to assemble their own bowl choosing their favourite toppings. Just before eating, the dish is stirred vigorously to mix everything together. Imagine the chewy noodles getting coated with the soft egg and sauce, the aromatic menma, tender pork and the crispy shallots - we love it!
A limited number of tickets for 2 x 90 minute seatings of this special event are available now!
The first sitting is from 5.30pm-7pm. Enjoy a free bowl of edamame with your BYO or our tea while you browse the shop for 15 minutes. We'll demonstrate the dish at 5.45pm and serve the hot noodles at 6pm.
Tickets are £10.
