Join Fox & Squirrel for an an exclusive visit to GrowUp Urban Farms, London’s first commercial aquaponic farmers. “What’s aquaponics?” ,actually more like aqua - whaaaat, we hear you say.
In simple terms, aquaponics is a recirculating system that combines hydroponics (growing plants in water without soil) and aquaculture (fish farming). It creates a cyclical process of fertilising and filtering and is just one facet of the future of urban farming that is revolutionary in it’s principles.
Fox & Squirrel will be interviewing Kate and Tom, founders of GrowUp, on this revolutionary form of Urban Farming- a replay if you like of that fiery debate between the four of us that we had at the V & A some months ago.
In order to get to grips with the concept guests will get to climb through this up-cycled shipping container and greenhouse, which is not usually permitted. Along the way enjoying several goodies.
It is a chance to learn more about how London can feed itself in the future and how the attitudes and landscape around urban farming are changing.
GrowUp Urban Farms has recently moved to the latest and greatest redevelopment of urban spaces, RoofEast, an open air haven for those seeking great food, fancy a bit of open air cinema or just want to enjoy a view that overlooks London and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
Following the tour, tea, coffee and cake will be provided by the café at RoofEast, where we hope to witness some dramatic sunsets over East London.
