Can you think of anything more comforting or welcoming than the smell of freshly baked bread? A crisp outer crust of bread with a warm, fluffy centre is one of life’s pleasures. Our bread making lessons teach you all the skills you need to bake real bread at home; perfect if you want to reconnect with your food, make something with your own hands and get back to basics.
Our bread making class is four hours long to allow you to make a variety of loaves with time for them to prove and rise. You’ll learn about different types of dough, each of which has a different mixture of ingredients, water and yeast. You’ll also be taught how to knead the dough, plus techniques to roll and shape it before baking in the oven.
By the end of the class you’ll end up with a range of breads, from ciabatta and focaccia to wholemeal rolls and flatbreads. Plus you’ll make scones to eat in the middle of the lesson, smothered with clotted cream and jam and served with a cup of tea or coffee. You have to have something to do while the bread’s rising, after all.
