hosted by School of Wok
School of Wok is pleased to welcome Luke Nguyen for an exciting evening of demonstrations and tastings from his latest book, "The Food of Vietnam".
Growing up in the ‘Little Vietnam’ Sydney suburb of Cabramatta, there has always been an intrinsic link between food and Luke Nguyen’s Vietnamese heritage, passed on through memories and knowledge from his family, and his passion for cooking South-East Asian cuisine. After opening his own restaurant, showcasing traditional food Vietnamese with contemporary dining, Luke decided to set out on a voyage of discovery, to further understand his cultural lineage and the life-long cooking skills passed down through generation to generation.
In The Food of Vietnam Luke begins his culinary journey in the South up the Mekong River, sampling the local street food, bypassing the fishing folk of Mui Ne, who work the ocean waters by night, through the terrace fields of Da Lat, filled with exotic vegetables, herbs and coffee plantations, right up to the Capital Hanoi where old meets new and the traditional ways are updated to suit the modern, developing world.
