Ash (food lover and devotee cook, also former Street Food Manager for Jamie Oliver's "Barbecoa") and Sundip (fellow foodie and general sloth) form The Cheeky Indian: Traditional Indian flavours, techniques and equipment are used and abused to create our unique style of what we refer to as "Indianish" street food.
From our humble beginnings at local farmers markets we have now pushed and pinched our way into trading alongside the creme de la creme of street food heavyweights on the mean streets of London where we have built up a very loyal following.
We adapted Mummas recipes for the modern age- looking for different and unique vehicles to deliver typical zingy Indian/Desi flavours. Dishes currently on rotation include our Beijing Bhuri, Freaky Tikki Chicken, Goan Beach BBQ burgers, Jumpin' Jeera Wings and Shepherds Bhai to name but a few.
Its definitely a labour of love! For example Beijing Bhuri: Hyderabadi pulled lamb. A shoulder of lamb is slow cooked for 5-6 hours in our spice blend. Its then lovingly pulled apart before being furiously fried. Its served on a bed of leafy greens, julienned strip salad, drizzled with our spiced plum B-B-Q sauce and snuggly wrapped up in a lavaash flat bread.
You can find us at Richmond Market every Saturday, Brixton and Waterloo Night Markets, Urban Food Festival in Shoreditch, Ruislip and Richmond Duck Pond Markets and the historical Brentford Market. We are part of the line up for London Zoo's "Zoo Lates" events throughout the summer and tend to "pop up" in various pubs, festivals and venues in and around London including Camdens Lock Tavern, as well as a short residency at the Deptford Hangover later this year.We were privileged to be added to Buzzfeeds list of "20 top traders to check out in London".
