Jonny has catered for us on several occasions now. The food has always been absolutely fabulous, with complete flexibility about having different options for vegetarians etc. The meal has always been immaculately presented, and my kitchen has always looked spotless afterwards. Plus there are often little extras that appear during the meal, or yummy leftovers for the next day. I can't recommend this highly enough!
Effortless classy indulgence!
I co-hosted a Christmas themed afternoon tea catered by Effortless Entertaining in December 2011 and we all had a fantastic time. We had approx 18 guests in my friends’ home. It was such a luxury not having to worry about the food so we could relax and concentrate purely on making sure everyone was comfortable and having a good time.
The food was excellent and the menu was created with Jonny taking into account all the vegetarians and other dietary preferences of the guests. We started with the traditional taster of finger sandwiches. There was smoked salmon with cream cheese and chives, cheddar cheese and homemade chutney, egg mayonnaise and finally pesto and roasted Mediterranean vegetables. All totally delicious and on the freshest bread.
Next were the scones with strawberry jam and a choice of two types of cream (Chantilly and clotted). They were probably the best scones many of us had ever eaten! The perfect size and a real melt in the mouth texture – none of that dry claggy feeling you sometimes get.
It was hard but we managed to save some room for the next course: five types of beautiful and individual cakes (the photo is actually here on this page I think). There was a flourless chocolate and chestnut cake which was dangerously light and moist. A pretty orange and cranberry polenta cake which came with a bonus surprise layer of caramel underneath. Perfectly rich mini Christmas cakes, Lemon tarts with the most incredible homemade curd and the cutest mini mince pies. All divine.
There were also some nice, extra touches. Jonny had made and brought with laminated menu cards so everyone could start salivating about what was to come with forks at the ready. He also kindly wrapped up little ‘goodie’ bags with what was left for those not wanting to part with anything and share with lucky partners back home. Jonny provided all the crockery – some cute multi-tiered cake stands and the charming mish mash of cups, saucers and tea pots were all a great touch. The selection of Teapigs tea temples he brought went down a treat with those who fancied being a bit more adventurous with their hot beverages. Of course we had bubbly too for some extra indulgence;) Everything really was taken care of to the highest standard – leaving lots of happy smiling guests to roll home! Ditch the diet and get stuck in.

I have had the pleasure of being part of two dinner parties catered for by Jonny, one as a host, the other as a guest.
For the party I hosted, Jonny came to see me a month or so before to discuss the menu and check on anything he needed to bring. Jonny spent a long time discussing the courses with me, and had many interesting ideas. He is extremely knowledgeable about what is in season, and whether it is the best time of year for a certain dish. He was very flexible on the menu - even changing the starter late on due to a request from one of my guests. Jonny also provided advice on the wine for each course - all of his suggestions (for both dinner parties I have been involved in) have proved the perfect accompaniment.
On the day of the party, Jonny turned up promptly at the agreed time and launched into work immediately. It was so wonderful to realise at around 6pm that I didn't actually have to do anything except get myself ready. The food was ready to serve at the time we had agreed, although he is flexible about serving times should this be required at short notice.
Every dish I have eaten from Jonny has been prepared to the highest standards both in taste and presentation. I have never seen Jonny without a smile and he maintains his cheerful attitude throughout the evening. As the chef, he is unobtrusive, but he is always ready to engage with the guests when such occasions arise. I would highly recommend him (and he does the washing up!).
