1920s Pop-up

Ever-evolving restaurant and artisan gin team up to create gin pairing menu

The Jones Family Project (, a unique and multi-faceted independent restaurant and bar in Shoreditch, has teamed up with Langley’s No. 8 ( to create a 1920s “Gin Distillery Room” pop up. Recently launched and open for bookings until 15th November 2014, the pop-up table will celebrate one of the most glamorous periods of gin history with hessian bags of botanicals, a miniature copper still and a multi-course gin pairing menu (priced at £35pp).

The pop-up is the latest offering from The Jones Family Project, a venue that offers diners the chance to discover something new on every visit.

This new incarnation of the ever-changing stage set pop-up table area will take groups of up to eight people on a journey through the historic Langley’s distillery, which dates back to the 1920s. The décor will echo the distillery’s interior as it looked at the start of its career, complete with a miniature replica of “Copper Connie”, a 4,000 litre copper pot still that produces all of the distillery’s hand-made and batch produced gin.

To reflect the ‘family’ aspect of the venue, The Jones Family Project will offer a menu of sharing platters including Scottish Salmon house-cured with Langley’s No. 8, Chicken a la rose with lemon, coriander seeds and white wine, Rump of Lamb with  juniper berries and black pepper and Orange and Gin parfait. Every dish has been designed to either include the gin or pick out the flavours of particular botanicals from the Langley’s No. 8 botanical mix.

Running alongside the menu will be a three-course gin cocktail menu with a host of twists on classic serves including The Spritz to start the meal, The Aviation to pair with main course and a Clover Club to pair with dessert.

This special selection of gin cocktails will also be served in both bars in the venue throughout the time that the pop-up table is running. Accompanied by the choice of a timeless Gin & Tonic that will be served with the addition of Grapefruit and Basil.

As always, dress up will be encouraged, and any group that get in the spirit and dress up in nineteen twenties attire will receive 10% off their meal.

The Jones Family Project

The Jones Family Project is set to be the destination of choice for fatigued Londoners who complain of being bored by predictable venues. Guests are even welcome to change the surroundings to suit their mood by taking control of the record player in the bar at certain times during the week.

With its contemporary and eclectic décor, The Jones Family Project offers a flexible space ideal for both work and play with friends, colleagues and family; from business lunches and meetings to private events, parties, romantic dates or lazy brunches.

While the space is a unique project with something new to discover every time, there is always an emphasis on quality, particularly in terms of the food, wine list, craft beer and cocktails. Classic and inventive dishes are offered from morning until midnight, throughout all the diverse areas of the spacious restaurant and bar. Ingredients are carefully sourced from suppliers with sound practices and quality produce (including select UK artisan producers such as The Ginger Pig - which is exclusively supplying a special Pork Rib Eye cut for the menu, Olivier Bakery and Jumi Cheese) and cooked freshly to order by an experienced and attentive team of chefs on a state-of-the-art Josper oven.

Aiming to encourage an inclusive community feel, The Jones Family Project was created by a group of friends who have come to know each other as family, having worked together for more than 20 years: Duncan Watts, Anna Watts, Amit Joshi and Cristiano Caputo. Duncan was one of the team behind Pitcher & Piano, which revolutionised bars by making them more inviting to women in the 1980s.  Amit Joshi and Cristiano Caputo were also involved with Pitcher & Piano before setting up Rocket in 1999 with Duncan and Anna Watts. All of the businesses this foursome have been involved with have grown from small start-ups.

Langley’s No. 8

Just over a year ago Langley distillery produced a perfectly balanced, elegantly understated English gin for the discerning, sophisticated consumer. Founded by two drinks industry experts with over 40 years drinks experience between them they wanted to produce a timeless gin which would have been created at Langley distillery in 1920 up to today’s contemporary gin market.

Eight secret botanicals have been scientifically and lovingly hand crafted & distilled to create a smooth, lingering and yet robust flavour profile unique to Langley’s No.8. The split & blend of botanicals, the selection of grain spirit and the alcohol strength were the key components we had to perfect for that balance to deliver a classic, unchanging English style gin.

Langley’s No.8 has received four top accolades in four spirits competitions entered including; gold in San Francisco World Spirits Competition and Gin Master in The Spirits Business super premium category.

Langley’s No.8 super premium status has led the product to be found in the back bar in every single bar, restaurant and hotel across London’s Park Lane and the feature gin in the Ritz Rivoli Bar in their headline champagne cocktail ‘The Iron Lady’.

You also can’t leave Birmingham without a taste of Langley’s No.8 as home of the distillery you can now visit the Langley’s rooftop terrace in central Birmingham trying a variation of Langley’s cocktails and G&Ts.
