London Chaiparty has joined hands with beer experts at The Joker, Islington to pair some traditional and not so traditional Indian food with beers. Craft beers and microbreweries have sprung up all over London and we thought it was high time someone paired actual Indian food with kick-ass craft beers.

We would take you on a beer tasting flight covering food from different parts of India, cooked in different styles and those that vary a lot in terms of taste and flavour. You never know, it may be the night you discover your favourite Indian food and beer.

                               Tapas Style Menu Paired With Beer

Masala smothered new potatoesOur take on Patatas bravas, this is a comparatively sober number with baby potatoes smothered in a coconut & coriander    

                                    Redchurch Shoreditch Blonde

Chat Pata Fish CakesDifferent from their Thai cousins, these cakes are distinctly flavoured with spices from the East of India, and served with a Chat Pata (spicy) mayo dip.

Vegetarian Option :  Rajma Gulouti Kebab with spicy mayo dip

                                              Laines Pale Ale

Prawn 'n PavMuch like Sloppy Joes, but way spicier and tastier is this seafood cousin of curried prawns heaped on pillowy soft brioche buns

Vegetarian option: Vada Pav served with all the snazzy bits


Egg Roast with chilli and onion reduction ~ One that is very popular all over India, with slight variations here and there. Really! Try stopping at one!

Kerala Pork Pepper Fry ~ Layered with Steamed rice and tempered yellow lentils

Vegetarian Option : Whole mini Aubergines cooked in onion, chilli and tamarind  is layered with rice and tempered yellow lentils.

Shahi Mille-Feuille ~ A royal ending to the meal is love affair between a Mughalai shahi Tukra layered with cardamom cream and fruit. Did we hear you say yumm!

Craft beer transformed by spices

I was really excited to try new dishes and have them expertly paired with another of my loves, craft beer. The pairings exceeded my expectations. The Gamma Ray I am used to tasted different due to the dish it went with. All the beers went extremely well with the food and the whole evening was good value for money. The food was of a high standard and was interesting. Each dish was something I'd not tried before.

It would have been even more brilliant if the beers were all served at the same time as the dishes, so we didn't have to wait. Also, if the drinks menu showed the beers in the correct order. However, this is nit-picking! It was very well put together and I would recommend the event to anyone who likes beer and curry.
