Here at Peranakan Palace, we want to introduce you to the delectable world of Peranakan cuisine. A cuisine uniquely blended Chinese ingredients and cooking techniques with spices used by the Malays to create something delicious.
Peranakan food is typically rich, aromatic and spicy and features ingredients such as coconut milk, galangal, laksa leaves, lemongrass, tamarind, chillies, candlenuts, pandan leaves etc.
Classic Nyonya dishes such as Beef Rendang, Ayam or Babi Pongteh, Itek Sio, Chap Chye, Popiah and many more will be featured regularly in a communal table setting, just like in a typical Peranakan household.
Expect up to 8 traditional Singaporean and Nyonya dishes, all served in the middle for sharing as it would be at my family’s dinner table. Below is a sample menu of some of the dishes you can expect.
Sample menu:
To starts ...
Achar (Nyonya veggie pickles)
Ngor Hiang (Crispy Five spiced meat rolls)
Chwee Kueh (Steamed rice cake with spicy radish toppings)
Mains...
Signature Ox Cheek Rendang
Babi Assam (Braised Pork belly in tangy tamarind sauce)
Sayur Lodeh (Nyonya mixed vegetables and coconut milk stew)
Nasi Ulam (Fragrant Herbed rice salad)
..... plus a few Nyonya kuehs/puddings to finish
This is a BYOB event.
Hope to see you at one of the sessions.
Note: Due to the small scale nature of the supperclub and Nyonya cuisine involves the use of shrimp paste, nuts & gluten, unfortunately it will not always be possible to cater to special dietary requirements.
